How Will Expansion Impact College Football In 2025?

It has long been mooted but the expansion and development of the college football programme has finally been approved and 2025 looks set to herald a new era within the sport moving forward.

With league reshuffling and an expanded product, there should be more games and more compelling matchups for fans to enjoy. Consequently, it feels like a very exciting period for both college football and the NFL.

Despite its technically amateur nature, college football’s appeal is growing worldwide, especially in the sports betting industry.

In the UK, the prominence of the NFL has extended into the college football sphere, and many sportsbooks and new UK casino sites have included college football in their offerings. The sport appeals to most punters.

The actualisation of expansion in college football will also add to the sense of intrigue and development within the sport and it now has a stronghold within the international sports betting landscape.

It is an exciting time for college football, with so much change for onlookers to grapple with and the expansion in 2025 should make for compelling viewing.

New Alignments, Old Rivalries

The SEC has long been regarded as the elite competition in college football and with 12 teams set to compete in the league this season, the stakes will rise even more.

Adding two college football behemoths in Oklahoma and Texas gives the league some extra bite and every game promises to be box office viewing this term.

The Big Ten is also a key beneficiary of the reshuffle, with the likes of UCLA, Oregon and Washington all joining the ranks and there will be no quarter given in that conference either.

Stability comes into the Big 12 too, with the likes of Colorado, Utah and both Arizona and Arizona State jumping on board, a move that has been made to improve the overall standard of college football across the United States.

Reshuffling the intricacies of each league will of course impact how the college football structure is shaped moving forwards, but it will also reignite some old rivalries and give the competition a reboot.

Heisman/Manning Trophy

Few football families in America can compete with the Mannings in the modern era, with a rich line of success synonymous with the Mannings, in both college football and the NFL.

At 19, Arch Manning has the world at his feet and the promising quarterback is set to hold all the keys for Texas this season, as they look to assert themselves on the SEC and beyond.

Arch Manning, the son of Cooper Manning, comes from a family of football legends. His grandfather, Archie, and uncles, Peyton and Eli, were among the best quarterbacks in NFL history. The pressure is very much on Arch to continue the family dynasty.

Propelling Texas into the mix in the SEC would see him become a contender for the coveted Heisman trophy but he certainly won’t be the only one chasing the accolade.

Oregon will be hoping to benefit from the revamped playing schedule and Dante Moore is a quarterback who has the potential to tear up the league this season, while Caleb Downs will be flying the Heisman flag for the defenders, with his presence sure to be felt for an improving Alabama side this season.

Change isn’t always welcomed in modern-day sports, but college football looks set to benefit from a revamp that could reshape the football landscape.
